If you've taken the MRT up or down Edsa you'd noticed that they've started selling off air time on their MRT radio. You'd hear advertisements by Chow King promoting their Congee, or super cheap fares for Supper Ferry. You'd hear advertisements for Sony Ericsson Cellphones, or Jingles for Dunkin' Donuts. What drives me crazy is that they repeat these advertisements up and down the MRT, that's 20 minutes of my day! They're invading my sound space -- I can't enjoy the murmuring of the tracks, I have to listen to repeated commercials about what I lack!
And it's getting worse. I saw in one MRT that they installed little television screens that take up most of the headspace. I have to duck to avoid banging my head. It's insane. They installed 30 inch LCD's in the waiting area, showing a single music video that promotes the MRT. In a few years we'll be living in Marketing Mecca. It'll be like Wall-E, where our lives are defined by advertisements. It scares me.
This is one reason why I'm changing my major -- away from advertising. I hate it. I hate it.
